I decided very late in the season, that I wanted to knit my mom a blanket for Christmas. I’m a slow knitter therefore, speed and simplicity were my top criteria. However, I still wanted their to be some defining details, to give the blanket a nice stylish look. I chose to create a ribbed edge all the way around the blanket. Additionally, every row begins with a slipped stitch of to give the edges a nice finished look.
A super bulky yarn knit with large needles make this a swift fun knit, while the easy stitches make it a great movie night project. I chose a wool acrylic blend yarn, for it’s perfect blend of warmth and softness to make an “oh so cozy” blanket.
I was able to complete the project on time. The color matched my mom’s couch pillows just as I hoped it would! She was thrilled! Thereafter, she displayed the blanket proudly on the back of the couch, so everyone saw it as they entered her apartment.
Giving treasured handmade gifts is hands down my favorite reason to knit! I had to coerce my son into letting me knit him a blanket when he was in college. It’s been a few years, and he still tells me on a regular basis how warm and cozy his blanket is!
Whether your loved ones are sleeping down the hall or across the country, it’s such a special feeling to know that you’ve created something that is helping to keep them cozy warm. Now, let’s get to the pattern so you can make your own blanket!

The length can easily be altered by knitting more or less rows. To change the width, use increments of 2 +1 to accommodate for the slip one purlwise finished edge. Keep yarn needs in mind when adjusting the size of the blanket.
