Autumn and Drew’s intimate family wedding exemplified what the heart of what every wedding is all about. Two people committing to God and each other to join their lives together. In good times and bad they pledged to be their for each other, as long as they live. An intimate immediate family only wedding wasn’t what Drew and Autumn envisioned as they began planning this day 18 months ago. They planned a beautiful ceremony with a large wedding party made up of 18 of their closest friends and family. Obviously they are very loved! I think that is because they love others so well!
Shortly after our state was put on quarantine lock-down, and so much was unknown Autumn and Drew were thinking of others. Before March even ended they were working on a plan to reschedule their May 23rd wedding. I’m sure you can imagine the stress of having planned for 16 months and then have to reschedule your wedding! I am still blow away by Autumn and Drew’s attitude and response to the whole COVID situation. In an email this was what Autumn said about the decision to reschedule their wedding. “We have honestly had a lot of peace and very little stress about these decisions because we know in making them, we are keeping the people we love safe…” What a beautiful way for the Spirit of Christ to shine through Drew and Autumn’s relationship!
Nine years to the date of their planned wedding day, Autumn and Drew officially became a couple as 7th graders. According to Drew it took a little time, and asking a few times before Autumn agreed to be his girlfriend. “No I don’t like you in that way.” Was Autumn’s initial response. Drew’s persistence and patience, developed into a deep friendship and beautiful relationship. I have loved watching these two grow closer, especially as they navigated the new waters of college together.
So even though it didn’t look like what they had planned, nine years after Drew and Autumn started dating they committed their lives to each other in an imitate family wedding. Their families gathered around them, while both of their dad’s prayed for them, their marriage and life together. They focused on the heart of what a wedding is about, committing to spending your life with your best friend.
Enjoy a few sneak peaks of their special day. I can’t wait to celebrate with them in a full wedding day with all of their family and friends in August!
