It was so wonderful to catch up with Sara and Peter at their Thanksgiving Anniversary session. I first mentioned an anniversary session to Sara when I saw her at a wedding in August. She and Peter were so excited about the idea and I have been looking forward to it ever since! As fall progressed and we looked at getting a date on the calendar Thanksgiving weekend worked well for everyone! I’m so thankful they took time out of their Thanksgiving weekend to catch up during their anniversary session. Sara and Peter met through the Christian Houses at Purdue and were married the weekend before Thanksgiving 2019. They celebrated their first anniversary with dinner out, enjoyed the top of their wedding cake and of course their anniversary session!
When we met at Ouabache State Park, it was so hard not to hug Sara and Peter! Side note: I’m a hugger and after COVID, I’m hugging everyone, twice! I’ve known Sara since she was in second grade and she spent a lot of time at our house growing up, so not hugging was especially hard.
Peter and Sara seemed to love each other even more than they did on their wedding day. They had a comfort level about them, that was such a blessing to see. As we explored Ouabache State Park, I asked them about their first year of marriage. It has definitely been an interesting year, for everyone. Sara and Peter said the best part of being married, was simply getting to be together more. To get to know each other better. Peter has worked from home most of the year, which enabled him to take on more home tasks.
Sara works in a nursing home, and that has been especially challenging this year. She has such a kind and caring heart and wants the best for the residents. So it’s so hard to see them unable to have visitors, and even their interactions with each other are limited. She plans the activities for the residents and has had to be as creative as possible with COVID restrictions.
Peter and Sara were married in November. They were just really settling into married life and ready to get involved in their community when COVID shutdown everything. They had looked for a church while they were dating, and found what is now their home church. However, they weren’t able to really get involved and start making friends until this summer. They got involved and became members of their church. Sara is even taking Biblical counseling classes through the church. What a wonderful certification to pair with her human services degree.
I asked who cooked the most, and they said, actually they both cook quite a bit. Peter mentioned several of Sara’s specialties, he especially likes her homemade meatballs.
It was such a joy to see how happy Peter and Sara are together. Peter is clearly Sara’s safe place, and he absolutely adores her. Grab a cup of hot cocoa and enjoy a few of my favorites from their Thanksgiving anniversary session.
