The Fourth of July is on a Saturday this year! How awesome is that! Everyone will be doing a little, or a lot of grilling this weekend . Delicious juicy hamburgers are a staple of any grilling weekend, and I have the perfect recipe for you!
To make this recipe easily adaptable for a single meal or a gathering I’ve listed the ingredients per pound of ground beef.
Finely chop or shred, 1 large carrot for each pound of ground beef you’re using. Shred zucchini to equal approximately 1/4 c. per pound of ground beef.
In a large mixing bowl combine ground beef, shredded carrots and zucchini, and then add 1 egg per pound of ground beef. To season, add 1 teaspoon Lawry’s season salt and 2 tablespoons Italian bread crumbs for each pound of meat. Salt and pepper to taste. Mix well until combined.
Form into patties. If you don’t want to form the patties by hand, pressing a patty sized ball of meat mixture between two plates works very well.
These juicy delicious hamburgers can be grilled on virtually any grill for George Foreman to gas, to charcoal grill. In cold weather I head the George Foreman grill to read, place up to 3 burgers on the grill and cook until no longer pink, no flipping needed.
For a charcoal grill: I hand the bowl of ingredients to my son or husband! 🙂 I’m learning, but I am far from a charcoal grill expert!!! You may want to google this part. Place charcoal in grill, distribute evenly, making sure you use a good amount. Douse generously with lighter fluid, and light using a match or lighter, and then close the grill and let heat until coals are red hot. This usually takes approximately 15-20 minutes.
Place hamburgers on grill cook on one side for three minutes and then turn it over and cook for an additional four to seven minutes depending on personal preference for how you like your burgers cooked. These cooking times are based on recommendations from Charbroil.com for cooking over direct high heat. They also site that the USDA recommends beef be cooked to a minimum of 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
Best served with your favorite buns or Sandwich Thins and condiments. Our favorite sides include:
If you have thawed your ground beef in the microwave, adding an extra egg, or two if making a very large batch helps the hamburgers stick together on the grill.
