Do you have a wonderful fur baby in your life? Are you considering including your fur baby at your engagement session? Then you don’t want to miss this post! These tips for engagement photos with dogs will help set you up to successfully include your fur baby in your engagement session.
Let’s be honest, dogs don’t always behave the way we want them too, especially in a new environment with strangers. You want to be able to relax, and enjoy your engagement session and focus on the moment. Plan to have a friend or family member who is familiar with your dog bring her for part of the session. (Male dogs are completely fine too, for simplicity, I’m going to just use her). Thirty to forty-five minutes into the session is ideal. This will give you time as a couple to get warmed up and get comfortable with the photographer, before adding your pet. Have your friend/dog sitter play with your pet and get some exercise before they arrive at the session. Once your pet arrives she’ll want to greet you and have time to become familiar and comfortable with her new surroundings. Once she’s settled in, we’ll add her into the pictures.
Be sure to bring doggie bags, because well, she’s a dog and you never know when nature will call. 🙂
Please bring treats that can be used to help get her attention. The pet sitter can also be helpful, standing directly behind me while I’m photographing to get your dog to look at the camera. Bring a toy as another attention getting option.
Have your dog on a cute leash that will blend well with your outfits, rather than be a distraction. Leather, black or navy are always great choices.
Have patience with her and don’t worry. I love dogs! Including them in a few engagement photos is always fun and brings a special cuteness factor to the photo shoot.
