Ma’s Hot Fudge Sauce

Friends we’re in the dog days of summer.  Heat, heat  and more heat with humidity thrown in for good measure!  Days like this make me want to be a kid again, spending the day by the pool and the enjoying some ice cream.  While I can’t help with the pool, I can give you an awesome recipe to make the most of your ice cream indulgence.  Ma’s hot fudge sauce is simply THE best!!!  I don’t remember when I first asked for her recipe, but it is a well loved staple in our house .  It’s simple with just a few ingredients.

Most people love chocolate. In fact, nine out of ten people love chocolate. About 1 billion people eat chocolate every day. Besides the fact it tastes so good, there are some health benefits of chocolate. Chocolate increases serotonin and dopamine levels, which helps to boost the mood. Dark chocolate can also be especially good for you. Dark chocolate is a powerful source of antioxidants, plus it helps to improve blood flow, lower blood pressure, and reduce the risk of heart disease.

Celebrate by eating chocolate! Other ways to participate include:

  • Visit your favorite restaurant and indulge in a delicious chocolate dessert.
  • Host a chocolate tasting party and invite friends to bring their best chocolate recipes to share.
  • Learn about chocolates from around the world.
  • Read your kids a book about chocolate, like Charlie and the Chocolate FactoryCandy’s Chocolate Kingdom, or The Chocolate Touch.

WORLD CHOCOLATE DAY HISTORY

It’s unclear who came up with this yummy food day. However, the day is celebrated on July 7th because it was on this date in 1550 that chocolate was first brought to Europe. The first World Chocolate Day was celebrated in 2009.”

 

Recipe

Back to our fudge sauce recipe!

Hot Fudge Sauce

Ingredients

4 oz  semi-sweet chocolate baking squares

1 can Eagle brand sweetened condensed milk

1/4 cup sugar

1/8 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup water

1 teaspoon vanilla

 

Directions

Break baking squares into small saucepan.  Melt over low heat. Low heat is key, melt the chocolate slowly so it doesn’t burn.

Stir in sweetened condensed milk, stir until thickened.

Next, stir in sugar and salt.  Add water, continue to cook over a low temperature.

Stir continuously until thick–approximately 10-15 minutes.

Remove from heats, stir in vanilla.

Spoon over your favorite ice cream and ENJOY!!!!
