Tips to look your best on your wedding day

I wanted to take a few minutes to give you some easy tips to look your best on your wedding day.  You’ve invested a lot of time and money in planning your big day.  The majority of the pictures of the day will include you, so it’s natural you’ll want to look and feel your best.

Tanning

If you’re going to tan before the wedding, be sure to avoid tan lines – especially if you have a strapless dress. If you’re getting married in the summer, make sure that in the two to three months leading up to your wedding you’re tanning evenly to avoid tan lines.

Hair & Makeup

Get your hair and makeup professionally done.  This will help ease the stress of your wedding day in multiple ways.  You won’t be the one trying to make sure your hair and makeup look perfect.  Honestly, when we want our hair to look its best isn’t’ that always when we are having a bad hair day!

An experienced hair stylist has knowledge and tools to insure your hair will look beautiful from first look images all the way through the reception.  One of the hottest wedding days I’ve ever photographed, the bride’s hair looked fabulous all day long!  I was amazed!  It was all thanks to her wonderful hairstylist, her knowledge, products and tools.

An experienced make-up artist can provide the similar benefits.  Make-up artist have the knowledge of how to best accentuate your favorite features.   They also have the means to provide superior coverage that lasts all day long.

Be sure to meet with your hair and make-up stylist before your big day for a trial run.  This gives you the opportunity to communicate about the look you want and also to make sure you like the end result, BEFORE your wedding day.

Accessories

This is the perfect time to think about family heirlooms or gifts from your fiance’ that you want to include on your wedding day.  Try on your dress with your different potential accessories.  This way, you can see what they look like with the dress and veil. I suggest taking the accessories with you to a fitting.  The bridal store will also have accessories you may want to purchase to complement your own.   You can see how everything looks together, and then make final decisions on what you want to wear

Having your accessories gathered when you’re your day begins will allow your photographer to easily capture them in the detail photos. And, they will be ready for you when it’s time to put your dress on.

A few items to consider:

  • veil
  • hairpiece
  • earrings
  • necklace
  • bracelet

Shoes

You will be on your feet a lot during your wedding day!  You’ll want to be sure to have comfortable shoes.  Some brides even choose to wear heals for their ceremony and a more casual pair to dance in for the reception

Walk around in your wedding shoes prior to the big day to get them worn in.   This will help make them more comfortable and allow you to trouble shoot any spots that cause discomfort.

Take some sandpaper to the bottoms to scuff them up a bit so you don’t slip down the aisle or on the dance floor. If you are going to walk around in grass, you’ll want to get some high heel protector caps so you don’t sink in the grass. You’ll also want be conscious of walking on uneven grass so you don’t stumble or step on your pretty white dress.

Eat & Drink

The best way for you to look your best is to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water the days leading up to, and the day of, your wedding. Also, be sure to eat on your wedding day throughout the day so you don’t pass out or get a headache. If you’re planning to drink alcohol, wait until the reception, after the majority of the photos have been taken.  Red wine especially can stain everything (including your mouth).
